1. Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Philipp Hoellermann, I am 35 years old and work as project leader in the development and establishment of distance learning program at IUBH, a private university near Cologne.
2. Why do you do it?
It pays the rent. 😉 Nah, seriously, I am an e-learning and web 2.0 enthusiast and got the chance to create some brand new programs from the scratch using all the technologies and teaching formats I liked most (such as video-based teaching, collaborative learning, social media tools, etc.) Well, that was a project I didn’t want to miss and it is both a challenge and a blessing.
3. What do you hope to learn from the OEB?
We already supply our students with high quality learning material and offer a number of e-learning tools our lecturers and students can use (such as an LMS with self-assessments functions, forums, wikis, video conferencing, chats, etc.). However, we are neither quite happy with the tool we use right now nor with the level of usage. Especially mobile learning remains an issue and social learning is not as advanced as we would like it to be. Online Educa offers me the chance to see best practice in the usage of tools and to get to know about new technologies that might change the way we learn and teach. Finally I would like to extend my professional network both in Germany and internationally.
4. What do you hope to give to the OEB?
Sharing my experience with e-learning in the private university sector in Germany is probably something that might be of interest to other visitors… as might be my experience with social media usage. Also, I have quite some experience with project management and business development in the private educational sector… so let me know if you are in for interesting discussions.
